Alumnus' candle company bringing relaxation during stay-at-home order

For many, the COVID-19 crisis has led to lots of canceled plans. For homebodies, it’s prime time to relax in some rare downtime.

Since October 2019, Spencer Findlay (2014) and his wife Kenzie have been creating specialty, hand-poured candles from their Seattle studio. Their company, “Cancelled Plans” was inspired by the couple’s love for cozy nights in. Utilizing their backgrounds in graphic design, the pair was inspired to create fun, relatable candles with beautiful designs.

The brand is based on relatable feelings, including candles with names like “Do Not Disturb”, “Student Loans” and “Social Anxiety.” All Cancelled Plans candles are made with high quality scents and ingredients. Every candle is hand-poured, vegan, clean-burning, and toxic-free.

Since launching in the fall, the company has been featured in online gift guides and magazines including Refinery29, GLAMOUR Magazine, and Nordstrom Pop-In. Cancelled Plans candles can now be found in 30 wholesale locations across the country, including Urban Outfitters.

“COVID-19 has certainly taken a toll on retail across the world – yet thankfully we haven’t been directly affected. My wife and I are continuing to hand pour, package, and ship everything out of our Seattle Studio just trying to keep up with the demand. Our online sales have also picked up tremendously over the past 2 weeks as our candles perfectly promote self-care and fun during this quarantine season. We feel very grateful to be safe and healthy during this season,” Spencer Findlay said.
