Preschool

We teach children that the Bible is God’s word and contains the stories of God’s people.

Our goal is that each child will be able to say:

• I know the story of creation and of Noah’s ark.
• I know the nativity story.
• I recognize that Jesus was once a child, just like me.
• I am learning to love and care for others the way Jesus taught us to do.
• I can worship God in different ways.
• I can care for God’s creation.

Navigating relationships with each other gives children a sense of belonging, helps them learn to show concern for others, and how to cooperate, communicate and negotiate.

Our goal is that each child will be able to say:

• I can separate from my parents.
• I can ask my teachers for help.
• I can take care of my own needs. (I.e., put on my coat, use the bathroom, wash my hands, etc.)
• I can work well with others, both in learning activities and during clean-up time.

Young children are developing muscle strength and control of their motor skills, both in the classroom and on the playground.

Our goal is that each child will be able to say:

• I can run with control.
• I can balance.
• I can throw and catch a ball.
• I can hold a pencil with strength.
• I can draw lines and shapes.
• I can cut with scissors.

Language is a gift from God and a tool to help children build healthy relationships with their teachers and classmates.

Our goal is that each child will be able to say:

• I can share my ideas.
• I can ask questions and answer others’ questions.
• I can listen to and talk about a story.
• I can learn simple rhymes, songs, and finger play activities.
• I can follow two- and three-step directions.
• I can draw lines and shapes.
• I can recognize some letters, including the letters of my name.
• I know the sounds that go with some of the letters.
• I can write some letters, including the letters of my name.

Young children are wired for order, repetition and patterns, making the early years a wonderful time for learning about numbers, asking questions and figuring out how things work. We guide students to explore the world that God has made, using scientific investigations such as color mixing, water play, magnets, electricity, volcanoes, building and tinkering, and much more.

Our goal is that each child will be able to say:

• I can count.
• I can recognize numbers.
• I can sort and match objects.
• I can use math words such as more, less, same, and different.
• I can create and notice patterns.
• I can use mixing and measuring tools.
• I can ask questions and make predictions about what might happen.
• I can use scientific tools to investigate and explore the world.
