October was a joyful month for kindergarteners and preschoolers at Bellevue Christian School. They experienced new adventures, celebrated learning milestones, and continued growing in community. From the magic of B.E.A.R. Week in kindergarten to the grand opening of the brand-new Three Points preschool playground, every moment reflected our mission to prepare young people to live faithfully for Christ by cultivating curiosity, imagination, and a deep sense of belonging.
B.E.A.R. Week: Growing Readers with Big Imaginations
If you walked into our kindergarten classrooms earlier this month, you might have been greeted by a bear, or several! That’s because our elementary campuses were celebrating B.E.A.R. (Be Excited About Reading) Week!
B.E.A.R. Week is a beloved tradition at Bellevue Christian School. It’s a time dedicated to reading joyfully and creatively, helping young learners discover the kind of stories that make them giggle, think deeply, and dream big.
Throughout the week, kindergarten students enjoyed:
- Visits from authors who brought stories to life through lively storytelling
- The book fair, where children browsed new favorites with wide-eyed excitement
- Themed days like pajama day and “dress as a book character” day
- Teddy bear picnics with snacks and snuggly reading buddies
- Special storytimes—including one with Mr. Olson, our Head of School!
When Mr. Olson joined classrooms to read aloud, he reminded students that reading is not only a skill—it’s a gift. Through stories, children learn empathy, courage, creativity, and the ability to see the world through someone else’s eyes. These essential skills align closely with our mission to nurture students’ hearts and minds in Christ-centered learning environments.
The joy was unmistakable: eager hands shooting into the air to ask questions, big hugs for favorite teddy bears, and endless chatter about what books to explore next. Moments like these are the heartbeat of early education at BCS.
A Playground Made for Fun, Imagination, and Community
While kindergarteners were busy reading, our preschoolers at the Three Points campus were celebrating something big too—a brand-new playground!
Thanks to the generous donations and efforts of our community, this space was transformed into a place where joy and adventure take center stage. Now, as children run, climb, swing, dig, and explore, their laughter fills the fresh air of Lake Washington’s beautiful shoreline neighborhood.
The new playground was designed to support:
- Gross motor development, building balance, strength, and coordination
- Collaborative play, encouraging friendships and teamwork
- Outdoor learning, where curiosity and creativity can flourish naturally
- A safe, age-appropriate environment that fosters confidence and independence
Play may look simple, but it is foundational to learning. In these moments—sliding down with friends, waiting patiently for a swing, solving problems together—children are growing socially, emotionally, and spiritually.
Seeing our Three Points preschoolers beaming with delight reminds us why we invest so deeply in early childhood spaces. This is where lifelong learners begin their journeys.
Small Children. Big Futures. Christ at the Center.
At Bellevue Christian School, we believe every child is uniquely created by God with incredible potential. Our teachers partner closely with families to nurture that potential through hands-on learning, grounded in biblical truth and guided by loving relationships.
Whether it’s a quiet storytime moment during B.E.A.R. Week or the thrill of a busy playground adventure, we value every opportunity to help students grow confident in who they are and build skills that will serve them all their lives. And in it all, they experience an authentic, thriving Christian community that points them continually to God.
These October highlights reflect something core to our identity: we take joy seriously. We know that when students feel safe, seen, and supported, they flourish.
