At Bellevue Christian School, our mission is to cultivate students in mind, body, and spirit. That mission comes to life in every classroom, chapel, and court—and this year, the BCS girls’ basketball team showed what it truly means to live out that calling.
We are thrilled to celebrate a historic season for our girls’ varsity basketball program, which was recently honored with multiple state-wide recognitions. From earning the 1A State Championship title to being named the WIAA Team of the Month, and receiving individual accolades for both players and coaching staff, this season was marked by extraordinary achievement, character, and teamwork.
State Champions: A Defining Moment
In early March, the BCS girls’ basketball team secured the 2024–25 1A State Basketball Championship, finishing their season at the pinnacle of Washington high school basketball. Competing against some of the strongest teams in the state, our athletes demonstrated the kind of resilience, unity, and grace under pressure that defines a championship team.
The final game was a powerful reflection of the team’s journey this season—a blend of athletic excellence, strategic execution, and a clear sense of purpose. It was more than just a victory on the scoreboard; it was a triumph of the values we hold dear at BCS: perseverance, humility, and faith in action.
WIAA Team of the Month
The team’s exceptional season also caught the attention of the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA). They named the BCS girls’ basketball squad their March 2025 “Team of the Month.” This honor recognizes more than just wins—it highlights programs that exemplify sportsmanship, team spirit, academic commitment, and community involvement. Our student-athletes embodied all of these and more.
Their work ethic in practice, support for one another, and representation of Christ both on and off the court stood out to everyone who had the privilege of watching them compete this season.
Celebrating Coach Mark DeJonge
Behind every great team is a great coach—and in this case, a truly exceptional one. Coach Mark DeJonge, who also serves as our Athletic Director, was named 1A Coach of the Year by the Washington State Girls’ Basketball Coaches Association (WSGBCA). This prestigious award reflects his outstanding leadership, deep understanding of the game, and unwavering commitment to mentoring students.
Coach DeJonge brings more than just a winning strategy to the gym—he brings a discipleship-centered approach to coaching. His focus on character development, integrity, and servant leadership has made a lasting impact on the lives of his players.
Player of the Year: Addi Taylor
Among the standout athletes this season, Addi Taylor rose to the top—both statistically and as a leader. Addi was named 1A Player of the Year by the WSGBCA, an honor that reflects her incredible performance, leadership, and heart.
Addi’s contributions extended beyond her stats. Her dedication in practices, encouragement to teammates, and embodiment of Christian character made her a cornerstone of this year’s success. Her recognition as the top player in the state speaks volumes not only about her talent, but about the team-first culture she helped build.
Athletics as a Ministry
At Bellevue Christian, we see athletics as an extension of our educational mission. Sports are not only a platform for physical development but also a powerful opportunity for spiritual growth and relational connection.
Our coaches are mentors who pour into the lives of our students, encouraging them to pursue excellence while anchoring their identity in Christ. From elementary through high school, our athletic program emphasizes commitment, character, and Christ-centered teamwork.
Whether students are playing varsity sports or participating in middle school programs, the emphasis remains the same: glorifying God through effort, attitude, and community.
Looking Ahead
As we celebrate the many accomplishments of this year’s girls’ basketball team, we’re reminded that trophies and titles, while exciting, are not the end goal. The greater victory is found in the growth, faith, and relationships that were formed throughout the season.
The legacy of this year’s team will inspire future Vikings for years to come. Their success sets a high bar, not only in terms of athletic achievement, but in how they represented Bellevue Christian School with integrity and humility.
We are proud of Coach DeJonge, Addi Taylor, and every member of the team. Thank you for showing our community—and the state—what it means to compete with purpose, serve with joy, and lead with grace.
