What does it mean to be an American? Students will wrestle with this question as they encounter U.S. History from the Reconstruction Era to the present.

  • Tackle difficult questions that compose complex narratives in U.S. History
  • This class focuses heavily on historical writing, where students analyze American history with rigorous research and review exercises
  • In the 3rd Quarter, students develop and complete a capstone research project. This assignment guides students to develop a strong thesis, support their ideas with peer-reviewed research, collaborate with experts in respective fields, and to produce a college-level essay
  • Workload: Students use prepared texts to analyze different themes and periods of American history; students write guided research-based essays; students dialogue about nuanced topics
