Description

In an ever-changing world, problems evolve quickly. This class seeks to analyze and describe the lenses humans use to interrogate the surrounding world. CWI’s units are centered on developing metacognition—thinking about thinking—by pursuing contemporary issues which allow us to better understand ourselves.

  • Each person is a ‘contemporary world issue’ and by understanding ourselves better, we have a greater opportunity to positively change the surrounding world. CWI balances skill and content.
  • Students will learn about current issues like the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and will practice fact-checking and searching for biases in sources
  • We seek to develop a framework which could be used to analyze any issue, present and future. The goal is to teach students how to think, not what to think!
  • Level: On-level. There are no honors nor AP versions of this course offered at BCS.
  • Workload: Students use prepared texts to analyze different themes and issues relevant to the present; students work collaboratively to produce work such as mock U.N. Proposals and workshops for soft skills
