Last month, something special happened at an Everett Silvertips game. As fans rose to their feet and the arena quieted, a group of Bellevue Christian School students stepped forward—not with hockey sticks, but with harmonies.
Kantorei delivered a stunning performance of the National Anthem before the Everett Silvertips faced off against the Brandon Wheat Kings. Their voices filled the arena with clarity, confidence, and reverence—an unforgettable moment not just for those in attendance, but for our entire BCS community.
And the story isn’t over.
Kantorei is preparing for their next National Anthem performance on March 10th at 7:05pm, as the Seattle Thunderbirds take on the Victoria Royals. Opportunities like these don’t happen by accident. They reflect countless rehearsals, courageous students, and dedicated faculty who consistently seek meaningful platforms for our young musicians to share their God-given gifts.
But while these headline moments are exciting—and we celebrate them wholeheartedly—they are just one beautiful expression of something deeper happening every day in BCS choir.
More Than Music: A Ministry of Worship
At Bellevue Christian School, the arts are not an “extra.” They are a vital part of how we nurture the whole student: mind, heart, and spirit.
Choir, in particular, holds a unique place in our community. Singing together teaches students to listen carefully, breathe together, and blend their voices in unity. It requires humility, discipline, and courage. It invites students to step forward—and also to support one another.
Most importantly, it creates space for worship.
When our students sing, whether in chapel, at a hockey arena, or on a concert stage, they are participating in something sacred. Music has long been part of the Church’s story—an expression of praise, lament, gratitude, and hope. In choir, students learn that their voices matter. They learn that worship is not passive; it is active, embodied, and shared.
Through rehearsal and performance, they discover that excellence honors God. They learn that preparation matters. They experience firsthand how beauty can point beyond itself.
Growing in Confidence and Community
Choir also provides invaluable opportunities for growth beyond the music itself.
Students learn how to perform under pressure. They build resilience. They practice leadership. They experience the thrill of standing before a crowd and delivering something meaningful together.
Performing the National Anthem at a packed arena takes more than musical skill—it requires composure and courage. When Kantorei stepped onto the ice at the Silvertips game, they represented not just BCS, but the character and preparation cultivated through years of mentorship and practice.
These performances on community stages—like the upcoming Seattle Thunderbirds game—remind our students that their talents can serve beyond the classroom. They begin to see how their gifts can contribute to the broader world.
And behind every performance stands a dedicated team of faculty and staff who invest deeply in students. Our music educators don’t simply teach notes and rhythms. They mentor, encourage, and open doors to meaningful experiences. They understand that the arts shape identity, confidence, and faith.
The Lasting Impact of Choir at BCS
For many students, choir becomes more than a class. It becomes a place of belonging.
It’s where friendships are formed between rehearsal breaks. It’s where nerves turn into confidence. It’s where faith finds expression through melody.
At Bellevue Christian School, we believe the arts enrich faith and cultivate creativity that reflects our Creator. Choir is one powerful way that belief comes to life.
We are so proud of Kantorei and all our choir students—for their recent performance in Everett, for the upcoming Seattle Thunderbirds appearance, and for the countless quiet rehearsals that make these moments possible.
As they continue to share their voices throughout our community, we celebrate not just what they sing—but who they are becoming.
