TEACHING FOR TRANSFORMATION

Teaching for Transformation

God’s Peculiar People, With Purpose

1 Peter 2:9
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession [a peculiar people—KJV], that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

“The primary goal of Christian education is the formation of a peculiar people—a people who desire the Kingdom of God and thus undertake their life’s expression of that desire.” ~James K. A. Smith

Bellevue Christian adopted Teaching for Transformation as a framework for teaching Christianly in the 2016/2017 school year. The TfT program, as developed by Prairie Centre for Christian Education and partner schools, provides a frame-work for the development of authentic and integral Christian learning experiences that are grounded in a transformational worldview with a focus on seeing and living out God’s story. The TfT program’s design practices and tools are being used by over 50 schools worldwide (Canada, United states, Africa, and Central America) to develop powerful learning experiences.

Teaching for Transformation begins by asking teachers and students to articulate a deep hope, answering the question, why are you here?

My deep hope is that BCS cultivates curiosity about the created world and graciously radiates hope to all who need it. ~Head of School

My deep hope is to pour into others so that they may in turn pour out God’s love. I hope to empower those around me to spread their God given gifts around the world. ~6th Grade Teacher

My deep hope is that my students would put down deep roots to understand who God is, build a relationship with him, and bear beautiful fruit. ~ 1st Grade Teacher

My deep hope is that my students would cultivate a deep and growing connection with Jesus Christ, out of which they would live loved and love others. ~ High School Teacher

With deep hope and the formation of a peculiar people in mind, Teaching for Transformation invites students and teachers into three core practices to help students see God’s story and live God’s story.
