The September air across our Clyde Hill campus carries a distinct crispness, signaling the turn of the season. Walk past the gymnasium on an afternoon or glance toward the athletic fields as the sun dips behind the trees, and you might see it. The sound of a volleyball practice in the gym, the sharp whistle echoing across green turf, and the collective cheers of families gathered on the sidelines have officially returned.

After the quiet stretch of summer, the arrival of autumn brings a vibrant energy to Bellevue Christian School. September marks the long-awaited return of fall athletics, a season where our community gathers to cheer, connect, and celebrate the gifts of our student-athletes. From football under the lights to the dedicated strides of cross country, our fields and courts are once again alive with purpose.

More Than a Game

For our Vikings, stepping onto the field or court is about far more than points on a scoreboard. We believe that every breath, every sprint, and every strategic play is an opportunity to practice stewardship over the physical gifts God has given us. When our athletes suit up for competition, they are engaging in a form of active worship, discovering how effort, discipline, and endurance reflect the character of our Creator.

This September and October, our high school and Junior High athletes are stepping into four dynamic programs, each offering its own unique rhythm and community space:

  • Football. Friday night lights bring our community together. The excitement of the student section and the shared camaraderie on the bleachers make these evenings a cherished tradition for families across the Eastside.
  • Volleyball. Inside the gymnasium, the energy is electric. Our volleyball teams embody unity and fast-paced communication, supporting one another through every serve, set, and rally.
  • Soccer. Spanning the green fields of our campus, soccer showcases incredible grace, footwork, and strategic teamwork as our players work seamlessly to propel the ball forward.
  • Cross Country. Racing through Pacific Northwest trails, our runners learn the quiet discipline of endurance. It is a sport where personal perseverance meets team encouragement.

In each of these venues, our coaches act as mentors, guiding students to see that athletic skill is not merely a tool for personal achievement, but a gift to be cultivated with humility and gratitude.

Iron Sharpening Iron on the Sidelines

Ask any parent sitting in the stands on a cool September evening, and they will tell you that fall sports are as much about relationship as they are about competition. Athletics provide a natural meeting ground where current families reconnect after a summer away, where alumni return to cheer on the next generation, and where new parents find an immediate sense of belonging.

We know that iron sharpens iron, and we see this truth lived out through our teams every day. A senior captain offering a word of encouragement to a nervous freshman; teammates praying together in a huddle before a match; opponents sharing a high five after a hard-fought game. These small moments build a culture of profound mutual respect.

Our coaches cultivate an environment where success is measured by growth, character, and how well we love one another in the heat of competition. Winning a game is wonderful, but seeing a student show grace under pressure or step up to encourage a fallen teammate reflects the true heartbeat of our athletic program.

Formed for a Greater Purpose

As we look ahead to a full calendar of games and events, we are reminded that education at Bellevue Christian School is designed for holistic formation. Through the training of body and mind, our students learn lifelong lessons about perseverance, resilience, and joy. They learn how to win with humility, how to process loss with dignity, and how to represent their school and their faith with honor.

Whether you are packing a blanket for a chilly soccer match, grabbing a warm drink before a volleyball game, or cheering on our cross country runners as they cross the finish line, you are part of this story. We invite you to explore our upcoming game schedules, join us in prayer for our student-athletes’ health and safety, and experience the warmth of our community firsthand.
