Washington Trends
State economic, demographic, and social trends are related to one another and, in turn, affect government policies on spending and taxation.  A strong economy, for example, attracts more people to the state, which in turn boosts state tax collections. Social developments, such as crime rates and the incidence of teenage pregnancies, also contribute to demands on public resources. The purpose of Washington Trends is to chart these elements which shape public and private life in Washington.

Trends in Academic Progress: Three Decades of Student Performance
In 1999, the long-term trend assessments in reading, mathematics, and science were administered for the final time in the twentieth century. This report presents the results of those assessments, and examines the trends in 9-, 13-, and 17-year-olds’ achievement in these three subjects since the first administration of each assessment.
 
Health and Safety Issues 
California Center for Health Statistics
The Office of Health Information and Research (OHIR) produces a variety of data tables, either as part of larger reports or as stand alone tables. These tables provide data on a variety of topics, including births, deaths (including fetal and infant deaths), and population demographics. Data include: counts, rates, ratios, percent distributions), for different geographic levels and time periods (e.g., annual, multi-year trends).

Bankruptcy Statistics
The Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts compiles statistics on bankruptcy filings for each quarter ending December, March, June and September. The fiscal year for the federal Judiciary ends September 30. The calendar year ends December 31. Quarterly and 12-month statistics are available approximately 2 months after the close of a quarter. 
Bureau of Justice Statistics
BJS collects, analyzes, publishes, and disseminates information on crime, criminal offenders, victims of crime, and the operation of justice systems at all levels of government. 
Bureau of Labor Statistics
This database of information about various consumer items allows you to select and compare data on a wide variety of costs and figures for American workers and consumers. The Child Trends DataBank

Cities Data Systems: Current Labor Force (Employment/Unemployment)

Drug Enforcement Agency "National Profile & Trends Over Time" Data
"Presents a bird's eye view of current national DEA enforcement activities, and how these differ from the past practices." High School Dropout Rates
"Who won't be attending high school graduation this year? New data from the Child Trends DataBank indicate that non-Hispanic black high school dropout rates have hit a historic low in 2001 of 11 percent, further narrowing the black-white education gap. Hispanics, on the other hand, continue to lag far behind blacks and whites with a dropout rate of 27 percent."

Iraq War Coalition Casualties
Charts the number of casualties in the Iraq War, based on figures provided by the United States Central Command in Tampa, Florida. Data is provided on a monthly reporting basis. Find statistics about fatalities and injuries for United States and United Kingdom military personnel, contractors, and Iraqis. Monthly Retail Trade and Food Services
"This site provides "current estimates of sales at retail and food services stores and inventories held by retail stores" in the United States. Reports "are released approximately 6 weeks after the close of the reference month. They contain preliminary figures for the current month and final figures for the prior 12 months." "The U.S. Natural Hazard Statistics provide statistical information on fatalities, injuries and damages caused by weather related hazards.
Z-score Data Files
Presents values representing the 8 different growth curves for infants (weight-for-age; length-for-age, weight-for-recumbent length; head circumference-for-age) and older children (weight-for-stature; weight-for-age; stature-for-age; and BMI-for-age). Birth to 36 months, and also to age 20.

The Annual National Transportation Statistics (NTS) Reports

The primary purpose of the site is to provide a compilation of statistical information covering the broad field of American education from pre-kindergarten through graduate school. The Digest includes a selection of data from many sources, both government and private, and draws especially on the results of surveys and activities carried out by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES).

Historical Statistics for Mineral and Material Commodities in the United States
"This USGS digital database is an online compilation of historical U.S. statistics on mineral and material commodities. The database contains information on approximately 90 mineral commodities, including production, imports, exports, and stocks; reported and apparent consumption; and unit value (the real and nominal price in U.S. dollars of a metric ton of apparent consumption). For many of the commodities, data are reported as far back as 1900."
