Creative Arts

Bellevue Christian School Art includes courses in the Junior High and High School. In Junior High, all seventh graders who are not in band have Art and Music Block, a one semester overview of these disciplines from the Middle Ages to the Modern Ages with a focus on Europe and America.

Students have experiences in personal expression through listening to music and producing art from major historical time periods. Other opportunities in Junior High for art instruction are Cartooning and Art Dimensions, offered in alternate years.

BCS Students visit Cornish - 2008

Studio Art students visit Cornish to see what’s new in the world of Art School…the students were motivated by this same show 2 years ago so they went back by popular demand….they visited the Cornish studios and saw the work of the graduates of the BFA programs in Fine Arts and Design. They saw amazing professional design work and off the wall conceptual work that really made an impression….like a dress made of mounds of used teabags and an arachnophobic photo and wire installation.

BCS Students at ArtSpring 2007

Junior High and High School students volunteer at ArtSpring, the festival of creative arts put on by Very Special Arts of Washington every year at the Seattle Center. The BCS student volunteers smile their way through the day in creative activities with special kids from the public schools in King County. Bellevue Christian students have provided the core volunteer crew at this event for the past 17 years.

Interior Design and Art 1 student field trips

Sharon Altig-Smith, grandmother of Andy and Richie Altig in the high school and Mackenzie in the Junior High…opened her lakeside home to two classes of art students this spring.  The Art I students practiced painting en plein air in the garden and on the lake, enjoying a beautiful summer day.

The Interior Design students heard from Randy Altig, Sharon’s son and our students’ uncle, on how to be creative in designing their lives as well as their homes. He was very motivating and inspirational since he practices out of the box thinking and living in his design work and on his Fox Television program “Maximum Living” .  We all left with great ideas for saying “yes” to our wildest dreams and ideas for our lives.

BCS Student Artwork at Starbucks and Paper Source

Paper Source
Starbucks

Art work by Julia Breslin (‘07), Anna VerGowe(‘08), Aileen Benson(‘08) and Wes Loven (‘09) was on display for the month of March at the NE 8th Starbuck’s in Bellevue.  The colors and size of the works fit perfectly into the Starbuck’s décor and the baristas reported that there were many appreciative comments about the work.  David Lasby, Starbuck’s employee (’02), works on site and helped to facilitate the arrangements for this venue for our students’ work.
