Save the Date--BCS Recognition and Farewell Open House: Sunday, June 8.

Congratulations BCS High School Students! On April 26, the BCS Math Team earned 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies from the State Math Competition at Central WA University-Ellensburg. This is the 18th consecutive year that the BCS Math Team, coached by Ken Olfert, math dept. chair, has advanced to the State Competition. All BCS teams qualified for state through the regional competition in March. At State, BCS teams competed in 3 of the 4 events. BCS students won both 1st & 3rd place in the Topical Problem Event. A BCS team took 2nd place in the Team Problem Event. Congratulations to seniors: Tommy Greene, Nate Sleight & Pia Westen; juniors: Kevin Kim, Tyler Buchanan & Russell Quamme; sophomores: Ben Greene & Yong Min Jo & freshmen: Yong Suhn Jo, Michael Milbank & Jeanne Sleight. Additional regional qualifiers were unable to compete at State due to the State Solo & Ensemble Contest.

Congratulations BCS musicians! On April 25 & 26, BCS musicians participated in the State Solo & Ensemble Contest. As at Regionals, the State format is open competition, regardless of school size, so reaching this level is a major accomplishment representing serious commitment. BCS ensembles included the instrumental nonet of Emily Sumner(12) and Andrea Zarate (10), flute; Gail Stanton (11), oboe; Michelle Kim (11) & Kenny Ralston(11), clarinet; Leah Tott (11) & Ryan Sun(11), bassoon; Cameron Darr (10) & Erin Peterson(10), horn; & the choral duet of Caleb Kruse (11) & Michael Wilken (10).  Solos included instrumentalists, Michelle Kim (11) clarinet, 2nd in State; Leah Tott (11) bassoon, Superior Rating; David Westen (12) trombone, 2nd in State; & vocalists, Isaiah Lin (12) baritone, 1st in State; & Brian Stacy (12) tenor, Superior Rating.

Congratulations to Michelle Kim, junior, who was invited to participate in the National Merit Scholarship Program based on her PSAT exam scores. She scored in the top 5% of all juniors in the United States who took the PSAT exam last October. Semi-finalists will be named next fall.

Congratulations Anjali Jacob, 8th grader, who was selected as a State Finalist in the Doodle for Google contest sponsored by Google. A panel of judges selected Anjali from among thousands of student submissions for her work which demonstrated artistic merit & creativity & most clearly expressed the "What if...?" theme. To see Anjuli's Doodle for Google, check the What's Happening section of the website later tonight. For a complete list of state finalists, go to:  Doodle 4 Google site. Scroll down State Finalists-Region 10.
