Junior High is a unique phase in a student’s life. During this time, students experience many physical and emotional changes that substantially impact their academic growth. Choices made in these years often determine the direction of the young person’s life in high school and adulthood. Our desire is to work closely with families and students during this transition time. Our program, serving 7th and 8th grade with 90 students per grade level, is challenging yet nurturing, with a faculty and staff dedicated and called to serve Junior High students.

Our academic program is based on seven 45-minute classes--five required and two enrichment electives. Your student will have Bible, social studies, science, math, and English for the entire year. Enrichment classes last one semester, giving opportunity to explore four different areas each year. We offer twelve enrichment classes.

Bible class and weekly convocation are only a part of the spiritual emphasis at BCJHS. Frequently, students are encouraged in their spiritual growth through casual conversations with teachers or classmates. They learn to share prayer requests and support each other in homeroom prayer times. And they are constantly challenged to view their world from a Christian perspective in all areas of study and activity.

Your student’s social development will be encouraged through participation in class parties (usually planned by the students), two junior high all-day retreats, student leadership opportunities, and service projects. The emphasis in junior high is on active group activities, where boys and girls can learn to relate to each other and develop healthy friendships.

Interschool athletics encourage physical development as well as promoting friendships and teamwork. Junior high is a good time to explore different sports and learn new skills. Some sports will require before school practices; others practice after school.

Come and take a look! In the Fall we begin having visitation days for students whereby they may attend classes with an assigned student. Parents and students are invited to attend a Prospective Family Meeting, held in the fall and winter, where they can learn more about the school. We will answer any questions you might have about our school as well as give you a tour. Please refer to admissions for the scheduled times for these visitations or call Lynelle Coyle, 454-4402, ext. 209 to reserve a place at any of these functions.
